Regatta day
On the day of the Head of the Charles regatta in October, and at the times of other special events along the riverfront, the path is jam-packed with pedestrians and unusable for bicycling. This section of Memorial Drive usually carries fast motor traffic, but on this day, traffic on the roadway is heavy and slow. Note that there is a bicyclist on the roadway in this photo. This situation illustrates the importance of the right of bicyclists to use the roadway. Photo taken in 1982, but nothing has changed about what is shown here.
