Simple utility bicycle with fenders, chain case, rack, generator lights, coaster brake, no front brake -- sturdy, simple, durable, but slow and with long stopping distance. The single drive ratio makes this bicycle impractical for hilly terrain, and the north side of Paris is hilly. This is a typical utility bicycle in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, which are very flat. French utility bicyclists more commonly use sportier derailleur-equipped bicycles with handbrakes. Marking on street reads "LIVRAISONS" -- "DELIVERIES" and is away from the curb to make room for bike lane between loading and unloading trucks and the curb. This is a one-way street and the bike lane is on the left.
